Accounts and sign-in

Clerk provides authentication for Davie Novel. Email registration uses your email address, password and email verification. If you choose Google sign-in, Google shares your account identifier, email address and basic profile information, such as your name and profile picture, with Clerk to authenticate your account. We request only OpenID, email and profile permissions. We do not request access to your Gmail messages, Google Drive files, contacts or calendar.

Account information is used to sign you in, identify your private workspace and support your account. Your password is handled by Clerk; the Davie Novel application database does not store your password.

Your writing

Your projects, story settings, chapters and saved versions are stored in our PostgreSQL database on our server in Japan. The application checks your signed-in identity before allowing access to your projects. Other authors cannot browse your workspace through the application. We use your account identifier to associate your projects with your account.

Your browser remembers preferences such as theme, selected project and chapter. A temporary copy of unsaved writing may be kept in the current browser tab to help recover an interrupted save. These copies supplement cloud storage.

Service providers and request information

Cloudflare hosts the website and routes traffic to the application API. Clerk handles authentication and authentication emails; Google handles Google sign-in when you choose it. Requests to these providers include technical information such as IP address and browser information. Cloudflare Web Analytics is enabled. Authentication emails can include request IP address and location. These providers process information under their own policies.

Current beta features

AI generation and payments are not enabled in this beta. Your writing is not sent to an external AI model by the current application. Google account information is used for account authentication and support, not for advertising or sale.

Retention, export and deletion requests

Writing remains in cloud storage so you can return to it across devices. You can export your writing from the workspace. For account or project deletion requests, contact the support address below; deleting local browser storage does not delete your cloud projects. Removing a sign-in account alone does not guarantee immediate deletion of writing from the application database.

Encrypted database backups are kept on the server for approximately seven days. Encrypted copies are also copied to an administrator-controlled computer when it is online. Those copies currently have no automatic expiry and can remain longer; deletion requests must also be reviewed against retained backup copies. A deletion from the active database does not immediately erase earlier backups.
